What If the Weather Stops Us Jumping?

You lose nothing. Every day, load by load, the chief instructor checks that wind, cloud and visibility allow safe jumping. If not, we wait for the next weather window, or your jump is rescheduled free of charge to another date in the season or as a credit. You can book with a light heart.

  • Wind

Surface wind matters as much as blue sky. For students, the French Parachuting Federation (FFP) sets a 7 m/s surface-wind limit until the canopy module of the A licence is signed off. For tandems and licensed skydivers alike, the chief instructor makes the call, for your safety.

  • Cloud

Skydivers need to see the ground: there must be large enough gaps in the cloud below exit altitude. The METAR above gives the height of the cloud base, in feet above the airport.

  • Rain and storms

We jump under dry skies, never in rain or with a storm approaching. Good news: in Beni Mellal it rains on average 4 to 6 days a month from December to April, with only 1 to 2 days of heavy rain (10 mm or more).

Our instructors' advice: build a little slack into your trip. If you're only coming for the day, book a morning slot: the later slots leave plenty of room to move your jump if the weather requires it.

Is It Cold at 4,000 m in Winter?

A little, and only for the freefall. Air cools by about 6.5°C per 1,000 m: with 18°C on the ground in January, expect around −5°C at the aircraft door. Freefall lasts about 50 seconds, then the canopy ride takes you down through steadily milder air, all the way to a landing in the sun. The right clothing is all you need.

  • Several thin layers rather than one thick coat: take off what you don't need before boarding.
  • A warm jacket for the morning wait: 2.9°C average low in January.
  • Closed lace-up shoes, sunglasses and sun cream to enjoy the day on the ground.

How to cite

PACMA, "Winter weather at dropzones and departure cities, 1991–2020 normals", based on the WMO 1991–2020 climate normals published by NOAA (NCEI), checked on 18 October 2026.

Method

  • Single source: station sheets of the WMO 1991–2020 climate normals, published by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). One reference station per city, usually the airport.
  • Values copied without reprocessing, rounded to one decimal place: average daily highs and lows, average number of days with at least 1 mm of precipitation, rainfall and sunshine where the station publishes them.
  • An empty cell means the station does not publish that value in this series. Sunshine for Milan-Linate is left out: the series in the source sheet is inconsistent.
  • Fixed order by role (dropzone, arrival in Morocco, winter skydiving destinations, departure cities): no ranking, no score.
