What do you need to know before skydiving in Morocco?

Good news: no experience needed! At PACMA, a club approved by the French Parachuting Federation (FFP), a tandem skydive costs €250 (2,500 MAD for Morocco residents), with about 50 seconds of freefall from around 4,000 m. You simply need to weigh no more than 90 kg dressed and bring a medical certificate. Open every day from 5 December 2026 to 4 April 2027.

Before you jump: simple requirements, no experience needed

Good news: you don't need any experience for a tandem. Age, weight, health, clothing, nerves: here is everything you need to know to book with peace of mind.

Do you need experience to do a tandem skydive?

None at all! On a tandem you are attached to a qualified instructor who handles the exit, the freefall, the opening and the landing. A ground briefing teaches you the body position to hold: that is all we ask of you. The rest of the time, you savour every second.

Your first tandem skydive

How old do you have to be to skydive?

15 for a tandem skydive and 16 for AFF (PAC), with parental consent for under-18s. This rule, also shown on the tandem page, applies to every booking this season: the perfect excuse to share the adventure as a family.

Age, weight and health requirements

Is there an upper age limit for skydiving?

No, and that is great news! There is no upper age limit as long as your health allows it: what counts is a medical certificate of fitness, or an on-site check with the club doctor (200 MAD). A quick word with your doctor, and the sky is waiting for you.

What is the skydiving weight limit?

90 kg dressed (about 14 st 2 lb) for a tandem skydive, a limit set by the tandem equipment, for your safety. You are weighed at check-in: if you are close to the limit, message us before booking and we will give you a clear answer, so you arrive on the day completely relaxed.

Skydiving weight limits explained

Do you need a medical certificate to skydive?

Yes, and it is quickly sorted. For a tandem, bring a medical certificate stating you are fit to skydive; no certificate? The club doctor examines you on site (200 MAD). For AFF (PAC) and the full course, you need an FFP-approved medical less than three months old.

What medical conditions stop you from skydiving?

The main ones are pregnancy, some heart conditions, epilepsy, recent surgery and some back or ear problems. Also leave 48 hours between scuba diving and skydiving. Any doubt? Your own doctor or the club doctor decides before the jump, so you can jump with peace of mind.

Can you skydive with glasses or contact lenses?

Yes, no problem at all! Contact lenses are worn as normal, and we provide goggles that slip over your prescription glasses. Just mention it at the briefing, and enjoy the view in perfect focus.

Can you skydive when pregnant?

No, pregnancy is a contraindication to skydiving, for tandems and training alike. Your jump will be waiting for you later! In the meantime, your friends and family can jump while you enjoy the show from the edge of the landing area.

I went scuba diving recently: can I skydive?

Yes, as long as you leave 48 hours between your last dive and the jump, as recommended by the French Parachuting Federation. Doing both on the same trip? Skydive first and dive afterwards: you get the very most out of each.

Do you need to be fit to do a tandem skydive?

No need to be sporty! You just need to be in good health, weigh no more than 90 kg dressed and be able to lift your legs for landing. Your instructor does all the technical work; you simply hold the position you learnt at the briefing and soak up the view.

Tandem skydive requirements

Can you skydive with a disability?

Often, yes! Always case by case: it depends mainly on the landing, where you need to be able to keep your legs raised. Contact us before booking and we will look carefully at your situation before confirming your jump.

Contact us

What should you wear for a skydive?

Nothing complicated: comfortable sportswear, trainers with tight laces (no sandals or boots) and two thin layers rather than one thick jumper. We provide everything else: the jumpsuit, harness, helmet and goggles.

What to wear on the day

Should you eat before a skydive?

Yes, lightly: an easy-to-digest meal one to two hours before the jump, and water. No alcohol before jumping, as the French Parachuting Federation requires. On site, lunch awaits you in the caidal tent by the runway (70 MAD): perfect for telling the story of your jump.

What if I'm scared of skydiving?

That is exactly who the tandem was made for! You don't need any special courage: your instructor explains every step, stays attached to you from take-off to landing and handles all the technical side. Your only job: enjoy it. And you stay free to choose right to the end: if you change your mind, you simply fly back down in the plane, no explanation needed.

9 instructor tips to beat the fear

Do you get vertigo when skydiving?

Here's a pleasant surprise: in the vast majority of cases, no! Vertigo comes from comparing something close with a ground far below; at 4,000 m the ground becomes a vast landscape and there is nothing left to compare. Got a diagnosed phobia? Let's talk it through before you book.

Fear of heights: what really happens

All tandem skydive requirements

On the day: what happens, how long it takes and the thrill

Half a day on site for about 50 seconds of freefall and 5 to 7 minutes under canopy facing the Middle Atlas: here is how your big moment unfolds.

What happens on a tandem skydive?

Check-in, weigh-in and ground briefing, then a 15 to 20 minute climb in a Pilatus PC-6 to around 4,000 m. Then comes the big moment: attached to your instructor, you enjoy about 50 seconds of freefall at 200 km/h, then the opening at around 1,500 m and 5 to 7 minutes of peaceful flight facing the Middle Atlas.

The 6 steps of your skydive

How long should you allow on site?

Half a day for a tandem skydive. The jump itself takes less than half an hour, climb included; the rest of the time, you enjoy the welcome, the briefing and the dropzone atmosphere while you wait for your load, which is timed around the weather and the day's schedule.

How long a skydive lasts: altitude and speed

How long is the plane ride up?

15 to 20 minutes aboard the Pilatus PC-6 Porter, which carries 9 skydivers plus the pilot. A real scenic flight: the Tadla plain, then the Middle Atlas peaks, often snow-capped in winter, unfold beneath you all the way up to around 4,000 m.

The skydive in numbers

How high do you skydive from?

From around 4,000 m, or nearly 13,000 ft. That altitude gives you about 50 seconds of freefall before the parachute opens at around 1,500 m, followed by 5 to 7 minutes under canopy to savour the panorama.

Altitude, freefall and speed at a glance

How fast do you fall in freefall?

About 200 km/h (around 125 mph) for roughly fifty seconds. And yet you don't feel like you are falling: it feels more like being held up by a powerful wind, with a huge landscape spread out beneath you. A feeling to experience at least once!

Who opens the parachute on a tandem?

Your instructor, at around 1,500 m. They manage stability, altitude, opening and landing. Once the canopy is open, they may even hand you the toggles for a few turns if the wind allows: your turn to fly, facing the Atlas!

All tandem skydive questions

Can you get a video of your skydive?

Yes, so you can relive and share your jump again and again: with the video and photos option (€100) or the Tandem + Video package (€350), you leave with the film and photos of your jump. Choose it when you book: it cannot be added after the jump.

Video and photo prices

Why can jumps be delayed?

Because your safety comes before the schedule. Wind, cloud or runway conditions can mean waiting, and the chief instructor makes the call. If jumping becomes impossible, you lose nothing: your skydive is moved free of charge to another date in the season, or turned into a credit.

Can you back out once you're in the plane?

Yes, you stay free to choose right to the end. Nobody jumps against their will: if you change your mind, you simply fly back down in the plane. Reassuring, isn't it?

Beating the fear, from the plane to the door

Can friends and family come and watch?

Of course, and it is quite a show! They watch you land from the edge of the landing area and can have lunch with you in the caidal tent (70 MAD per person). Fancy jumping too? A tandem needs no experience: book together!

Bringing friends and family

Your skydive, step by step

Safety: what protects you on every jump

A club approved by the French Parachuting Federation, a reserve parachute and an automatic activation device on every rig, weather calls made by the chief instructor: here are our straight answers, so you can jump with peace of mind.

Is skydiving safe?

The risk is low and tightly managed, especially on a tandem. At PACMA, a club approved by the French Parachuting Federation, every rig has a reserve parachute and an automatic activation device, the instructors are qualified and the chief instructor makes the weather calls. All that is left for you is to enjoy the view.

Safety at PACMA

What are the real chances of dying skydiving?

They are low: according to the US Parachute Association (USPA) and the French Parachuting Federation, the rate is between 0.2 and 0.5 deaths per 100,000 jumps depending on the year. And the risk is concentrated mainly among experienced skydivers under canopy, not tandem passengers.

USPA and FFP figures, dated and sourced

Is tandem skydiving safer?

Yes, it is the most closely supervised form of skydiving. Your tandem instructor is a highly experienced skydiver, the equipment is built for two, the parachute opens high, at around 1,500 m, and you have no emergency procedures to manage: you are there to enjoy it.

Why tandem is so closely supervised

Is it safe to skydive in Morocco?

Yes, when the centre follows recognised rules, and ours does. PACMA, founded in 2000, is a club approved by the French Parachuting Federation and follows its rules of practice; its aircraft and some of its instructors come from Vertical T'Air, a skydiving centre in Arcachon, France.

How we supervise every jump

How do you choose a safe skydiving centre?

Check its federation approval, the instructors' qualifications, whether every parachute has an automatic activation device and who makes the weather calls. At PACMA, every box is ticked: approval by the French Parachuting Federation, qualified instructors, an AAD on every rig and decisions by the chief instructor.

Who are the instructors?

Qualified instructors, in a club approved by the French Parachuting Federation. For the winter season, our partner Vertical T'Air (Arcachon, France) provides the aircraft and some of the instructors: many French instructors spend the winter in Beni Mellal as a result.

The club and its partners

What happens if the parachute doesn't open?

Everything is planned for: every rig has two parachutes, the main and the reserve. If there is a problem with the main, the instructor cuts it away and opens the reserve; and if the parachute is not open by the set altitude, an automatic activation device opens the reserve on its own.

What is an automatic activation device (AAD)?

Your safety net: a small computer, such as a CYPRES or a Vigil, that measures altitude and descent speed. If it detects that you are still in freefall too low, it opens the reserve parachute automatically. At PACMA every parachute has one; in tandem mode it is set to fire higher than for solo jumps.

How many parachutes are there on a tandem?

Two, in a single harness-container built for two people and worn by your instructor: a large main canopy and a very large reserve, which flies and lands just like a main. Genuine double protection.

How is the equipment checked?

Rigorously, at every stage. The reserve parachute is packed by a qualified rigger, never by the skydiver, and fully inspected at every repack; in France, regulations require a repack at least once a year. Before every jump, handles, closing pins and the AAD are checked, then checked again before boarding.

What if the instructor passes out?

The tandem system is designed for exactly that: if the parachute is not open by the set altitude, the automatic activation device, set to tandem mode, opens the reserve on its own, with no action needed from you. It is one of the layers of safety that make tandem the most closely supervised way to jump.

Who decides whether you can jump?

The chief instructor, and only them. They look at wind on the ground and at altitude, cloud and the forecast, with one simple rule: we only fly when conditions are right. If jumping is impossible, your skydive is moved free of charge: you lose nothing.

Is the landing dangerous?

It is the part that needs the most care, and your instructor flies the canopy all the way to the ground. Your job: lift your legs. That position, practised at the briefing, protects your ankles, the most exposed area for a passenger, for a soft landing.

The landing, in the jump step by step

Can you breathe during freefall?

Yes, completely normally! The only reflex to avoid is holding your breath as you leave the plane: breathe out hard, or shout for joy, and your breathing comes back on its own.

Does skydiving hurt your ears?

It is just like flying: pressure changes on the way up and down, and you simply swallow or yawn to equalise your ears. With an ear infection, sinusitis or a heavy cold, ask a doctor's advice before jumping, and change your date if needed, at least 48 hours before your slot.

Skydiving in Morocco in winter, facing the Atlas

Our season is winter: from 5 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, every day from 8:30 am to 6 pm, facing the often snow-capped peaks of the Middle Atlas. The perfect way to treat yourself to some sunshine in the middle of winter.

Is it cold in freefall in winter?

Fresher than on the ground, and quickly forgotten! The temperature drops by about 6.5 °C every 1,000 m, and it is often below freezing at exit altitude, 4,000 m. With the jumpsuit we provide and two thin layers underneath, you are well equipped for 50 seconds of freefall; and on the ground, winter afternoons are around 18 to 20 °C.

What to wear for a winter jump

Why is the club only open in winter?

Because our season is built around winter: from the first weekend of December to the first weekend of April, our partner Vertical T'Air (Arcachon, France) brings its aircraft and some of its instructors to Beni Mellal. The result: you jump in the sunshine over the Tadla plain while most dropzones in northern Europe are closed.

Winter skydiving trips

What is the weather like in Beni Mellal in January?

Mild in the afternoon, fresh in the morning: according to the 1991-2020 climate normals, around 18 °C at the warmest time of day and 3 °C at night, with only about 5 days of rain in the month. Bring a warm layer for the morning and the climb to 4,000 m.

Beni Mellal weather

What happens if the weather cancels my skydive?

Your jump is never lost: it is moved free of charge to another date in the season, or turned into a credit. Travelling from abroad? Keep a spare day in your trip: it is often enough to ride out a windy spell.

Learn to skydive: AFF (PAC), from your very first jump

Want to open your own parachute? PAC, the French equivalent of AFF, starts from your very first jump, with two instructors beside you.

What is PAC (AFF) in skydiving?

PAC (Progression Accompagnée en Chute), the French equivalent of AFF, has you jumping under your own parachute. On your first jumps, two instructors hold on to you during freefall; then you gain independence, level by level. The thrill of a first jump, and the start of real progress.

The AFF course programme

Tandem or AFF first jump for your first skydive?

Choose a tandem to experience freefall without learning anything: you are attached to an instructor after a simple briefing. Choose the AFF first jump (€500) to make your first jump under your own parachute, after ground training and with two instructors beside you in freefall. Two wonderful ways to start!

Tandem or AFF first jump: the comparison

How much does an AFF course cost?

The club's AFF (PAC) course includes 7 supervised jumps, levels 1 to 4, for €1,300 (non-residents) or 14,200 MAD (Morocco residents), with student equipment provided. A complete progression, in the winter sun, facing the Atlas.
