What does an FFP-approved club mean for your jump?

Real peace of mind: everything to do with safety follows written rules, not habits. At PACMA, training and rules of practice are aligned with French Parachuting Federation regulations: instructor qualifications, opening heights, wind limits for students, the AFF-style PAC programme and licences. You know exactly which rules protect your jump, and who sets them.

  • Qualified instructors

Every tandem and PAC (AFF) jump is supervised by a qualified instructor, as the federation requires.

  • Written rules

The FFP technical directive sets altitudes, opening heights, weather conditions and student progression. In PAC, for example, students open at 1,500 m or higher.

  • Recognised training

PAC follows the federation syllabus (levels, licences, progression logbook). The A licence takes at least 12 jumps, 5 of them solo: your progress is mapped out from start to finish.

Who jumps with you, and how experienced are they?

A qualified tandem instructor, harnessed to you from take-off to landing, under the authority of a highly experienced chief instructor: Omar Benizi, the club's president and chief instructor and a former national team member, has been skydiving since 1975 and has made around 14,000 jumps, according to the Moroccan press. Our partner Vertical T'Air, a centre in Arcachon, provides some of the instructors.

Read the club's story and meet the team.

  • A chief instructor in charge

They decide on every lift according to wind and cloud, and can ask a licensed skydiver for a check jump before letting them jump on their own.

  • French instructors all winter

Many French skydivers and instructors spend the winter in Beni Mellal, with our partner Vertical T'Air.

  • You just enjoy it

Your instructor handles the exit, the opening, the flying and the landing. You only hold two body positions, and you need no emergency procedure.

What equipment protects you during the jump?

Several independent safeguards look after you: a large main parachute built for two, a reserve parachute in a separate container and an automatic activation device (AAD), which opens the reserve by itself if you are still falling too fast at low altitude. At PACMA, every parachute is fitted with an AAD.

What equipment protects you during the jump?
ComponentWhat it doesHow it is checked
Main parachuteThe canopy used on every jump, opened by your instructor at around 1,500 mPacked before every jump
Drogue (tandem)A small stabilising chute deployed after exit: it keeps the pair stable and limits freefall speed to around 200 km/hPart of the tandem system, checked with the rig
Reserve parachuteA second canopy in a separate container, ready to take over if the main has a problemPacked by a qualified rigger at regulated intervals (at least once a year under French sports law)
Automatic activation device (AAD)Measures altitude and speed; opens the reserve if the fall is still too fast at low altitudeServicing and lifespan set by the manufacturer (12.5 years for a CYPRES, 15.5 years for units made since 2017; 20 years for a Vigil)
Passenger harnessAttaches you securely to your instructor at four pointsAdjusted to your size; your instructor checks every attachment point

How it all works: how does a parachute work?. And if something goes wrong: what if the parachute doesn't open?

Which aircraft takes you up to 4,000 m?

A Pilatus PC-6 Porter, which carries 9 skydivers plus the pilot on every lift. The climb takes 15 to 20 minutes to around 4,000 m: a scenic flight above the Tadla plain, facing the Middle Atlas. The aircraft are provided by our partner Vertical T'Air, and a second Pilatus joins in at busy times.

  • 9 skydivers plus the pilot per lift
  • A 15 to 20 minute climb to around 4,000 m
  • A second Pilatus at busy times
  • Aircraft provided by Vertical T'Air, a skydiving centre in Arcachon, France

What happens if the wind or cloud rules out jumping?

You lose nothing. The chief instructor alone makes the call, based on wind, cloud and the state of the runway. If your jump cannot go ahead safely, it is rebooked free of charge on another date in the season, or turned into a credit note. Here, safety sets the schedule, never the other way round.

  • The chief instructor decides, never the schedule
  • Free rebooking on another date in the season, or a credit note
  • Limits set by the FFP: for students, a maximum ground wind of 7 m/s until the canopy module of the A licence is passed
  • A winter season from 5 December 2026 to 4 April 2027, with jumps every day

What are the health, weight and age requirements?

No experience is needed, and the rules are simple. For a tandem: 90 kg maximum, dressed, plus a medical certificate of fitness, or a check-up on site with the club doctor (200 MAD). Under-18s need parental consent; the minimum age is shown on the tandem page.

How does your jump work, step by step?

Allow half a day on site, with every step building your confidence: the weigh-in and the medical certificate confirm you meet the requirements, the briefing teaches you the only two positions to hold, and your instructor checks your harness before clipping you on. Then, from take-off to landing, less than half an hour of pure thrills.

Minute by minute: what happens on a tandem skydive.

  1. 1

    Welcome, weigh-in and paperwork

At Beni Mellal airport: weigh-in, dressed, and medical certificate check. Without a certificate, the club doctor examines you on site.

  2. 2

    Safety briefing

Your instructor teaches you the freefall position (hips forward, head back, legs bent) and the landing position, legs raised.

  3. 3

    Kitting up

Jumpsuit, harness, helmet and goggles. Your instructor adjusts the harness to your size.

  4. 4

    Climb in the Pilatus PC-6

15 to 20 minutes to around 4,000 m, with views of the Atlas. Your instructor clips you on to their harness and checks every attachment point.

  5. 5

    Freefall and opening

Around 50 seconds at close to 200 km/h, stabilised by the drogue, then the parachute opens at around 1,500 m.

  6. 6

    Canopy ride and landing

5 to 7 minutes of flight facing the Middle Atlas, then a gentle landing, legs raised, in front of your family and friends.

What do the statistics say about skydiving risk?

They are reassuring: the risk is low and well measured, with 0.46 deaths per 100,000 jumps in the United States in 2025, according to the US Parachute Association (USPA), and around 0.42 per 100,000 in France in 2025, according to the FFP. Serious accidents mostly involve experienced skydivers flying their own canopies.

Safety questions

All questions
Is tandem skydiving dangerous?

Tandem is the most closely supervised form of skydiving: a qualified instructor, equipment built for two, a reserve parachute and an automatic activation device. And the risk is low: in the United States, the USPA counted 0.46 deaths per 100,000 jumps in 2025, across all types of jump.

Is PACMA a recognised club?

Yes, and that is a mark of quality. PACMA is a club approved by the French Parachuting Federation (FFP), founded in 2000 and based at Beni Mellal airport since 2003. Training and rules of practice are aligned with FFP regulations.

What happens if the parachute doesn't open?

Everything is planned for: every rig has a main parachute and a reserve parachute. If the main has a problem, the instructor releases it and opens the reserve; if the fall is still too fast at low altitude, the automatic activation device opens the reserve by itself.

What if my instructor passes out during freefall?

Everything is planned for that case: it is exactly what the automatic activation device is for. In tandem mode, it opens the reserve if the descent is still too fast at low altitude, with no action needed from you. Once open, the canopy comes down slowly and steadily.

Who decides whether we can jump?

The chief instructor, based on wind, cloud and the state of the runway, for your safety only. If your jump cannot go ahead, you lose nothing: it is rebooked free of charge on another date in the season, or turned into a credit note.

Is there a weight limit for tandem skydiving?

Yes: 90 kg maximum, dressed, a limit set by the equipment, for your safety. You are weighed at check-in on the day of your jump.

Do I need a medical certificate?

Yes, and it is quickly sorted: a medical certificate of fitness is required. If you don't have one, you can have a check-up on site with the club doctor (200 MAD). For PAC (AFF) training, the medical must be FFP-approved and less than three months old.

What if I'm scared?

That is exactly who the tandem was made for! Your instructor explains every step, stays harnessed to you from take-off to landing and takes care of all the technical side. You only hold two positions, and you have just one job: enjoy it. And if you change your mind, you fly back down in the aircraft.
